Celebrating life




It is that time of year again when one celebrates life, your accomplishments and the start of a new year and I in particular do a lot of reflecting and reminiscing.

Although it is also the time of giving and showing your love and appreciation for others it is also important to take this time and reflect on yourself, reflect on the things you are grateful for in life, what you have achieved and what goals you will be setting out for yourself for the next year to come with your future in mind.

I usually take a look back at how life has changed and improved from one year to the next.

This year has been amazing; I have met that special person who I truly love and will do anything for and who I want to build a life and future with. It also marks the end of my first year of studies which is another step into my future and getting my degree and this year has been a great year in terms of building new friendships and meeting some special people who make life amazing and well worth it.

I have also learnt a lot about myself this year in terms of who I am, what I stand for and what I want to accomplish in life and that I am the one who controls my life and happiness, no one else. Obviously I will continue to learn more things about myself, but this is part of what life is about.

It started off a bit bumpy, but in the end it all comes together and when looking back I now see why I had to go thru some of the things that I went thru this past year. Without those experiences, good and bad, I would not be the person I am today and where I am at today.

Remember one thing, what does not kill you, only makes you stronger… A very old saying, but so true.

Once again I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a super new year and I hope that you all set out to achieve and accomplish your goals you have set out in life, and if you have not, then it is never too late to start! Give it your all, you really do not have anything to loose!

Gym progress...


Thought I would post a pic of my progress at gym...

As I do not want to get too big, my aim at the moment is to still stay lean and just put on a little bit more size, not too much...

So at the moment we are training with lighter weights and doing high reps where as previously we were doing heavy weights with low reps. At the moment we do about 20 to 30 reps at a time and working on one muscle group per session and then doing abs on most days... We are putting in about 4 to 5 sessions a week which lasts about an hour.

So far so good. Been a bit slack over the holiday period, but thats okay...

The opening of SOHO nightclub in Johannesburg




This year for my birthday I decided to celebrate by having drinks and snacks at the house with mates and then venturing to the new SOHO nightclub that opened on the 17th of December in Boksburg.
Just the photos online had us all excited about seeing the club.

Despite the distance from Sandton to the club we all set off in convoy to SOHO, and upon arrival, just by the look of the amount of cars parked outside I knew it was going to be a good night.

We had VIP access for the evening, which allowed us access to the top level of the club, which was refreshingly cooled down by aircons, and we could look down at the dance floor and kind of gain our bearings.

The club’s layout is absolutely awesome, with a bridge that goes over the dance floor with a podium looking over the crowed and the design and layout of the bars you could clearly see that a lot of thought and effort has been put into this new venue.

The dance floor was a bit HOT but that would have been a given for any club on this evening as the afternoon was a scorcher, however, we were able to cool off upstairs.

The music was also great, really enjoyed the tunes that kept the crowed glued to the floor for hours.
And the male and female dancers were an absolute hit… Need I say more…

All in all it was a great evening and everyone had a fantastic jol! Will definitely be heading there again in the future!

As for my birthday, I am a bit nackered after 3 days of celebrating with mates but now it is time to wind down and do movies and some extreme sports, you know, get the adrenaline pumping!

Hemo Rage, giving it a try...



Jack 3D is a pre workout drink that I have been using for a while now, after taking about a month off from using it, which is something you should do to clear your system, I went to get more today, however, there is a new product that caught my attention which is called Hemo Rage. It is a bit more expensive, but comes in a larger tub and only requires one scoop where as Jack 3D requires two, so therefore it lasts longer.

It has the same effect as Jack3D, actually a little bit more intense and gives you a great boost in the gym, gives you an awesome pump and keeps you focused.

There is a warning on the tub that even if you are tempted to take more than one scoop, you should not! Where as with Jack 3D you can increase your scoops to 3 or 4 scoops.

After a few minutes of mixing it with water and drinking it I could feel the effects already, which is usually a tingling feeling in your skin and an increase in energy.

I arrived at the gym, did my thing and did not even take notice of anyone around me, spent about 45 minutes in my own little world…

Now, these pre workout drinks can be harmful to your system, I mean, you are putting toxins into your system, so if you are all about being natural then I would advise that you not take it.

With these two specific drinks, from experience they give you come downs, so if you are prone to depression I would also not advise that you take it.

Just thought I would share that with you guys who are looking at maybe investing in a pre workout drink, browse around and find something that you like, but try not stick with it as your system gets used to it. And always take a break from using the drinks.

Groupon Dinner Package – Deal or No Deal?


I have to admit that I am totally in love with the Groupon service and that I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, however when it comes to their dinner deals I wonder if the restaurants stick up to their end of the deal.

We had the opportunity of purchasing a dinner for 4 at a rate of R185 which included a sirloin steak and either a glass of wine, draught of beer or a soda each, needless to say we bought the offer from Groupon and headed to The Dross Malibongwe with the expectation of having a lovely dinner.

We were greeted with puzzled faces when we mentioned that we had a Groupon voucher, our reservation had been made but no table reserved for our arrival time so we were seated outside on a rainy and chilly evening.

It was evident that our waiter was not impressed with serving us, probably making the assumption that we were cheap skates just out to take advantage of the deal we had purchased from Groupon. Mom always said that assumptions are the mother of all f*@k ups, and in this case she was rite.

Instead of the waiter taking the opportunity and giving us super service in the hopes of getting a bigger tip as we had more to spare, he opted for the opposite, and the opposite is what he got in the end.

My concern is that although Groupon is offering these amazing deals, are you really getting the service that one would get when paying the full price? Are the restaurants briefing their staff on the opportunity they might have when serving Groupon clients?

Are the restaurants aware that Groupon clients could be turned into regulars provided that they enjoy the dinner and are offered the same service that usual patrons would be offered?

Yeah, maybe the Dross is not known for the best service around, but there is no excuse.

I believe that Groupon should ensure that the restaurants that they are enlisting should be informed and aware of the opportunity available and this needs to be communicated down to staff level, and maybe these restaurants should be rated first as it is Groupon’s reputation on the line as well.

I love...


I love the smell of freshly cut grass, the smell of a match being lit, or the first scent that comes from lighting a cigarette even though I don’t smoke.

I also love the smell of fuel at a gas station while filling up. I love the smell of onions being fried; it could be mistaken for a whole meal and I also love the sweet scent that passes through the air just before it starts to rain for the first time.

And I bet you I am not the only one...

Sisters With Blisters Walk 2011



What an amazing experience it was for an amazing cause!

We were up at 5am to make sure that we were ready for the first walk which kicked off at 7h30 this Saturday morning!

Sisters With Blisters is an initiative started by Jacaranda FM and involves thousands of people walking and taking a stand against woman and child abuse. And literally thousands of people pitched up for todays event.

We got onto the float to kick the first walk off and already I was in awe of the amount of people that came out to support the initiative. If the first walk was anything to go by then the rest was definitely going to be amazing!

It was not soon until we decided to get off the float and join the men and woman in the walk, some in heels and some in fairy outfits all sporting pink!! Even some of the guys were wearing heels! I take my hat off to them as 8km is quite a distance to do in heels, but well worth it!

The dog walk took off soon after with some canines sporting their own pink endowed outfits!

After having a quick lunch and something to drink we made our way to the starting point again to kick off the last walk of the day and this time around the masses of people walking had multiplied in size!

As we encouraged the ladies along the route it was clear that there was a lot of support for this cause and I am pretty sure that next year the turnout is probably going to double in size!

If you have not yet done the walk yet I urge you to join us next year and show your support! I know I will be doing it every year from now on and remember, it does not end at the finish line, this is something that people have to live by and constantly push to reduce woman and child abuse.

Thank you to Jacaranda for taking the time out to organize something so amazing all in aid of charity! You guys are super stars in my books!

Exam Time!


This morning marks the start of my exams, which will also see the end of my first year working towards my BA degree in Marketing at VEGA.

So far so good, I am writing Finance today, in about an hour to be precise and spent most of the day yesterday and the day before preparing for the exam. Of course this morning I woke up feeling tired as hell, but hey, it is nearly over… Then I got my Critical Studies exam on Friday, so the studying does not end. A typical day for me at the moment consists out of getting up, showering, hitting the books, taking a break to gym and hitting the books again, not very exciting at all!

This Friday, Ryan and I will be heading to the movies with a couple of friends to watch Breaking Dawn, I have never really been a fan, but it sounds like it should be pretty good.

My birthday is also coming up on the 16th of December and the plan is just to be really chilled, the plan for the whole of December is to be really chilled, we might do some traveling, but at the moment I am not too sure… :0)

Yesterday I got a call after entering a competition online while voting for Ryan for Face Of Markham and was told that I had won a Samsung Gio mobile phone, it was only released in March, so that is pretty cool, they deliver it this week. I am not too sure what I am going to do with it, but will see…

I should be picking up the pics from this past Saturday’s shoot with Roman Handt, I am really looking forward to seeing them as they looked super while we were shooting! And it was a very fun shoot to do with a whole bunch of great people!

Oki doki! I am off to write my exam now, then hitting the shops and gym, then more studying!

My Thineers Dental Procedure

A few weeks ago I made the decision to undergo a Thineers (Ultra Thin Veneers) dental procedure.  In a nutshell, Thineers is simply a permanent and painless way to a perfect smile.

Although I quite liked my smile the way it was, my teeth were slightly discolored and there was a small gap between my two front teeth, which made me a bit self-conscious.

Working in the entertainment industry, it is very important to be confident at all times, especially when smiling! After having the Thineers fitted, I am certainly boasting more confidence and kind of just want to smile all the time :0)

I decided on Thineers specifically because it is a much easier solution than getting veneers.

Only two very short consultations are necessary.  During the first consultation, which is about half an hour, Dr Wasserman takes the impression of your top teeth over which he will fit the Thineers.  The production of the Thineers is very quick and a week later the placement can be done.  The second consultation, during which he fits the Thineers, only takes about 40 minutes.

The nice thing about this procedure is that there is no filing or grinding of your own teeth.  So, you keep your original teeth and the Thineers are simply fitted over.  So there is no pain and no discomfort!

Doctor Wasserman gave me some advice afterwards to ensure that I maintain my new smile and keep my pearly whites whiter than ever, also keeping in mind that my thineers cannot discolor at all.

Be lifted charity lunch and fashion show, 5 October 2011






I try and accommodate as many requests as possible for charities and when doing so I really put some thought into what I am actually supporting and what I am offering my time up for.

This week I offered up some of my time to a charity called ’Be Lifted’. The campaign aims to endorse the importance of mental health for all South Africans. The campaign was generously funded and made possible by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund.

Rachel Tambo and celebrity friends all got together for a Champagne Breakfast and a fashion show by Jan Malan featuring top designers at the magical Shepstone Gardens in Johannesburg on the 5th of October 2011.

It was great to see PJ Powers perform her new song called ‘lifted’ with all proceeds from the sale of the single going to the charity as well as all funds raised at the lunch.

I look forward to my next charity event.

It is supposed to be my off week...




I actually have quite a bit to write about, a lot has been happening but I won’t bore you will all the nitty gritty.

This past weekend I looked after my two younger cousins, taking them to school and back, making sure that they were at their sporting events and making sure that they were fed and I can proudly say that I got a thumbs up from my Aunt and Uncle on their return. I do sympathize with single parents though, especially ones who have full time jobs! Because taking care of kids is definitely a fulltime job!

I had to take some time out on Saturday evening to host the FUSUN Live festival in Hatfield square which was awesome, I am most definitely looking forward to the next one!

This week has been a crazy one and it was supposed to be my holiday week, and we are only two days into it!

I visited The Melrose Aesthetics Centre on Monday morning and checked into the dentist first as I will be doing a teeth whitening treatment over the next few weeks, then I checked in to have my BBL treatment which is a laser treatment for the face. I was quite chuffed to hear the doc say that I did not really need it however the treatment will rejuvenate the skin and clear up any blemishes and scars and help prevent acne in the future.

I have to admit though, the procedure was a little bit uncomfortable but yet, my pain tolerance is not really that high and I just kept saying to myself: “No pain, no gain!”

Nonetheless my skin is feeling great and looks new! And it has only been a day since I had it done!!
As most of you know I have been punting for support for the Rapport model competition this year. It is something I would really like to win especially given the fact that one of the prizes is a car. Voters also stand a chance to win a trip to Mauritius with us when we go and shoot the calendar in October.

It is pretty easy for South Africans to vote, all you have to do is text “Rapport/Man10” to 35584.

New place and working hard!



Wow! I have not been on here for ages! Need to start learning how to blog from my phone!

I am all settled into my new place in Johannesburg and am loving it! I feel at one with myself… haha!
So I am back in gym after having the flu as well, all going well! I got the Cleo bachelor comp and the rapport shoot to look forward to and am ensuring that my body is in tip top condition!

This past week I had the opportunity of going into The Melrose Aesthetics Centre in Johannesburg to have a facial done, a very light peel in order to see what the condition is of my skin at the moment.

As I will be returning to them in a few weeks time I thought I would document my progress as I go along and share my thoughts and experiences with you.

First of all I must admit that as a teenager I used to battle with acne quite a bit, actually that is an understatement! Only now really, for the last year or so has my skin been getting better, however there is some sun damage, light scarring from previous acne and a couple of light blemishes which need fixing. I have also made the decision to visit The Melrose Aesthetics Centre on a regular basis as I would like to keep my skin under check, ensure that it remains youthful and healthy and to do what I can to prevent premature aging.

This is obviously something that one does over time and something that should become part of your lifestyle and you obviously need to listen and do what the professionals tell you to do!

After my treatment this past week my skin felt clean, smooth and fresh. The treatment unclogged my pores and got rid of dead skin cells and rejuvenated my facial skin. It was a little red after the treatment but I was still able to head out to an event later that evening. You can almost immediately see an improvement in your skin that just gets better as the days progress.

I am heading back to The Melrose Aesthetics Centre again sometime this month to go for a BBL treatment that involves laser therapy. This will assist with the light scarring and blemishes as well as the sun damage, which will prevent premature aging of the skin, I hope! :0) I will keep you guys posted on that as well!

Cleo, Taboo, a Move and Feeling Under The Weather...




I am feeling super under the weather with this cold that I have picked up, if only the person who carried it onto Ryan at work just stayed home, quite selfish of her if you ask me, but I guess most of us are all over worked and have commitments to follow thru on, so I will blame it on the corporates!

Anyway, this week sees me studying for a finance test I have on Thursday, nothing too hetic and I have grasped the concepts quite well, so I am not too worried.

This past weekend saw the birthday of Chris Coutroulis at Taboo, who is the owner of the venue. I was lucky enough to be included as part of the entertainment and a show which saw some hot bronzed up male models (yeah yeah, the eye makeup was a tad bit too much) carrying some hot female models thru the packed club showing off some awesome shoe designs. Afterwards it was party time. I believe it was one of Taboo’s biggest nights, loaded with celebrities and socialites and performances by Goodluck and First Project.

Last week we shot the November issue of the Cleo magazine for the Cleo bachelor of the year comp at a venue in Johannesburg CBD. I must admit driving thru the city was a bit nerve wrecking for me, however once I had arrived and met some of the other guys the nerves subsided.

I got to work with photographer Fiona Royds again, which was brilliant. She got me standing on the highest part of the building on the roof posing for what looks like some awesome shots!

We also did interviews with the magazine’s journalists as well as for ETV’s Sistahood show which will air on the 1st of October, should they choose my insert or at least part of it.

Well, here is to getting better soon! Hopefully before this weekend! I am moving to a new place closer to Uni and will need the energy!

Cleo Bachelor Of The Year 2011 Nomination


Hey guys!

I Hope everyone is having a super August month and keeping warm! Summer is
nearly upon us and believe you me I can not wait!

It will soon be time to get rid of the layers of clothing and start wearing
my shorts, slops and vests again! (Like the good old Durban days!)

I got some great news recently and I thought I would share it with you all
before the shoot this Friday.

I have been nominated as one of the top 50
Cleo Bachelors for the year for 2011 and will appear with the rest of the
nominees in the November issue of the magazine.

It will once again be down to public vote to determine the winner, I will
keep you guys posted and let you know when voting starts!

Other than that we are shooting for the November issue this Friday and I
will be working alongside the Wonderbra ladies this weekend at Taboo
nightclub in Sandton, still not sure what exactly they need guys for, but it
should be interesting. For those of you who are keen on stopping by, I am
sure it will be a great evening!

The opening of Privilege Nightclub in Fourways, Johannesburg


Friday the 5th of August saw the opening of the new gay club Privilege in Fourways, Johannesburg which is located on the corner of Witkoppen and Nerine roads. With Risque now being closed, the partygoers of Fourways needed a new venue to venture to on a Friday evening.

Ryan and myself arrived at the club at about 11pm to find the place packed and pumping with music. The club has a stylish interior with great lighting and great seating around the venue.

Erica Elle played an awesome set a bit later on into the evening and I must admit that I have not really enjoyed a club’s dance floor as much in a while. One thing that could probably be changed are the white spotlights which every so often shine straight into your eyes.

The night’s dancers were placed on a step which you had to use to get to and from the bar. I still prefer dancers to be placed on a stage or podium.

With it being the opening night of the club I would have expected at least one or two extra barmen behind the bar, but nonetheless the barmen were on top form and handled the masses quite well. Drinks were priced at market price, so no complaints there.

I did not find anything special about the VIP area, the floor was incredibly sticky which just made it uncomfortable standing on.

My number one problem with clubs are the toilets, any club should take care of their toilets throughout the evening ensuring that they are kept clean and tidy and as strange as this might sound the toilets need to be welcoming. The toilets are still part of a club and one should feel comfortable using them, nonetheless it is still work in progress.

Overall I think this is a great club and a definite place to visit on a Friday evening if your in the area and keen for a good night out with great music, an awesome vibe and a layout which is perfect for a gay club.

I am pretty sure the club will do well into the future provided they keep their entertainment on top form and introduce some cool attractions and perhaps some cool drink specials.

Tip: Watch your alcohol intake before heading to the club and while at the club as roadblocks on Witkoppen, which is the main road one uses to get to the venue are quite rife!


I look forward to heading there again in the future.

Some basic GYM Etiquette...



Most of us go to gym usually determined to have a great workout without any annoyances from others. I sometimes see it as an escape or an outlet of frustration, but when leaving the gym more frustrated than what you were when you got there then you got to know that there is a problem.

So over the last few months I have been getting very annoyed with a few things people do at the gym, most of the time these people are just plain ignorant or have no sense of respect for others around them. Here are a few points to follow…

When walking in a general walkway, don’t suddenly stop and turn around, in a busy and an over crowded place like a gym the chances of someone walking behind you is quite great.

While waiting for a machine or having a big fat conversation with a mate, try avoid standing in a general walk way area, or at least make space for other gym goers to get passed you, especially when you can see them coming.

When you are busy using a machine and you get caught up in a conversation with a mate, perhaps just step away from the machine until your done with your catching up. This allows others to use the machine in the meantime.

When you are walking up or down a staircase and you pass a mate walking the opposite direction try not to stop there and then to have a quick catch up, or at least ensure that there is no one else walking behind you or your mate.

It is most frustrating when you can hardly concentrate on what you are doing because of some bloke blasting off about the shag he had over the weekend or the steroids he is currently on. I would think that most people would rather keep something like this to themselves, clearly not at the gym, it seems that this is a place of stroking your own ego but at least try keep your voice down and let others focus on their own routines.

Apply deodorant before you start your workout, but avoid using liters of cologne! There is nothing worse than walking out of the gym after a heavy workout and walking into a cloud of scent which tends to suffocate you, it is not like your going to a club.

Try to keep your mobile on silent or vibrate if you feel the need to take it into your workout with you, especially if you are expecting a couple of phone calls during your workout. The standard ring tone of a blackberry or I-phone can get really annoying when heard over and over again.

And finally, there is nothing worse than being exposed to crack and swinging balls in the changing rooms, especially when the crack owner makes a point of bending down really far with one leg up on the benches to dry themselves, I mean, is this how you dry yourself at home? Must be a mating call of some sorts…

BURN THE FLOOR!

Whaaaat a super show Burn The Floor was! Currently showing at the Johannesburg Nelson Mandela Theatre.

We were invited to the opening of Burn The Floor this passed Sunday and as I know Ryan loves dance and used to be a dancer himself I knew he would enjoy this show!

With an international cast consisting of 24 members and a live band and live vocals, the show started off with a bang! The energy that was received by the dancers was phenomenal!

The Waltz! The Fox Trot! The Tango! The Quickstep! The Cha Cha! The Samba! And The Ramba! Were some of the dances that they performed for the evening! All fueled with energy and emotion and I must admit that the sexual energy that one gets from the show is something else!

Each BURN THE FLOOR dancer has spent a lifetime training to compete against other dance couples. This show allows the dancers to demonstrate their love and passion for their art.

This is a definitely must see! They are here for 4 weeks and are only to be seen at the Johannesburg Theatre! Even if I lived outside of Gauteng, I would still make efforts to see the show!

We are going to watch it again and are taking friends and family with next time to experience it with us.

Kylie Minogue Weekend at Sun City





The countdown to this past weekend started earlier this year when it was announced that Kylie Minogue will be heading to South Africa as part of her world tour, the queen of pop was coming to see us! Whoohoo!

Accommodation was booked at Sun City before the tickets were even released, as soon as they were released accommodation was booked up!

Ryan and myself together with mates hit the road this past Friday morning after a few glitches like taking my housemate's keys with me and having to head back to drop them off and also having to head to Ryan's place to pick up his favorite pair of jeans, I mean, you can not go and watch Kylie without wearing your favorite pair of jeans. Eventually headed to where Kylie was staying and due to perform at Sun City.

The plan was to start lining up as early as possible but because it was a Friday and most people could probably not get off work we were able to enjoy drinks and catch up with mates and we were still able to get super close to the stage and see Kylie up close and personal. Many were speculating that the songstress had lost the power of her voice but I strongly disagree.

The show was amazing and with the compliments people were giving after the show it just proves that she delivered, and she delivered well!

This was one weekend I will never forget. Many stating that they have now lived, they have seen there idol and need no more...

2.     Change your skincare products.  Products that worked in your teens may not be suitable in your 40’s and 50’s.  Deodorant, soaps, alcohol-based toners, and products than contain fragrance can leave mature skin feeling irritated and dry.

Facial exercises to help reduce wrinkles
Exercising is not jut for six pack abs and rock hard things. You don’t have to go to the gym, you can do these in the office or while watching your favourite movie. Follow these easy facial exercises and you will be amazed by the results!

Facial exercises involve pulling, stretching and creating variations to your usual facial expressions.  Since facial muscles have little or limited range of motion throughout the day, you will need to set aside time to work the muscles.  In addition to helping reduce facial wrinkles, facial exercises can be relaxing and help alleviate stress, so give it a try.

·      Forehead exercise. If you are a person who frowns daily or if you have a habit of raising your eyebrows often, you will eventually develop forehead wrinkles.  The best facial exercise for the forehead is to place your index fingers down while simultaneously fighting it by raising the eyebrows.  Repeat at least 10 times. This exercise should pull your forehead skin up and down at the same time and help remove the wrinkles.

·      Crows feet and eye wrinkles.  With your eyes closed firmly, raise your eyebrows.  Hold the position for 3 seconds and then rest.  Repeat at least 10 times.

·       Mouth area.  Lift your head high by elongating your neck like a giraffe would.  Place your index finger and thumb on your neck and gently resist the force by pulling the skin around the neck area down. Repeat at east 10 times. Another exercise for your chin involves gently tapping the area under your chin.  Use the back of your hand with palm facing downward and gently tap the area.  Repeat 10 times.

Holiday Time!

Geez! It has been insanely cold in Johannesburg and the mornings are proving to be the hardest. Having to get up, get into a hot shower and then step into the cold again is not the best way to start ones day, however it does give you a kick and wake you up properly!

I wrote my last exam on Friday and had the weekend to chill out and relax and am now anxiously awaiting results, which we will only get back next term, which is fine with me. I do not think I did badly though, my only concern is economics. It is just one subject I battle to grasp and although I studied it like a parrot, I really do need to understand something if I am going to be writing exams on it, so with that said it was not the best sitting I had.

My plans for all the spare time I will have on my hands for the next couple of weeks is to do some writing and hopefully work on a couple of marketing projects myself, which I am having a meeting about on Wednesday. Let us see if I can put into practice what I have learnt over the last few months!

I am also hoping to get some horse riding done, it is something I enjoyed doing when I first lived in Johannesburg before moving down to Durban and a really good friend of mine Dayle manages stables and hopefully she can squeeze me in sometime over the holidays, it is also the perfect way to chill out and relax.

We also have the Kylie Minogue concert coming up on the 8th of July and from what I can tell everyone is super excited about seeing her. If I am not mistaken it will be her first time here. We will be staying over in Sun City for the concert as the drive back is a bit of a long one to do after going to a concert! AND I am super excited too! Just saying…

I also took my 15-year-old cousin to go and watch The Script concert this past weekend; although they are not my most favorite band, it was still pretty cool! Most importantly my cousin enjoyed the concert, and I ran into a couple of mates I had not seen in a while and did some catching up with them. It was The Script’s biggest audience ever, which I think is quite an achievement for them as well as for Johannesburg and hopefully that just proves to other artists that it can be done in South Africa.

I was also tracked down by a ‘long lost’ friend over the weekend, we had been best mates in primary school and when I moved from St. Lucia to Phalaborwa somewhere along the line we lost contact, then we picked up contact again when I moved to Johannesburg and then lost contact again and now finally she has joined the world of social media and was able to find me! It was a pleasure hearing from her again and I most definitely think a trip down to St. Lucia is in order.

I hope everyone else enjoys the rest of their June month, nearly entering July! I cannot believe how fast this year is flying by! And where ever you are in the world keep warm or stay cool!

You Are What You Eat


Your skin tends to reflect what you eat.  What you put into your body is just as important to skin health as what you put on your skin. You cannot separate the two.

Healthy skin is smooth, soft, evenly toned-in short, beautiful! Unhealthy skin can be defined by its rough texture, abnormal coloration, dryness and oiliness, and skin that is inappropriate for your age.

Beans – Are an antioxidant as well, and red beans are the best choice.  They help fight free radicals and boost your collagen.

Tomatoes – Red, juicy tomatoes are a good antioxidant as well.  When cooked, lycopene is formed.  Lycopene lowers the risk for cancer and it helps keep your skin healthy and younger –looking.

Skin Care For Men



I find myself reading articles on a regulare basis based on skin care, however most of these articles are targeted towards woman.

Karel  Vermeulen who is an expert at what he does has put together some fantastic articles on skin care tips for men! I have read thru them and I must admit that they are definitely worth reading. I will be publishing a few over the next few weeks and I believe that you guys will enjoy them.

The first article he sent me is one on skin care basics and knowing your skin type, and in the article it describes a handy way of determining the type of skin you have! Which is vital to know when it comes to determining what kind of sin care regime you need to follow.

SKIN CARE BASICS: KNOW YOUR SKYN TYPE
First impressions are lasting impressions. Your face is the very first thing that people see and most often remember.  We all want to look good. When you look good, you feel good, you have more boldness, you feel empowered and your self-worth grows.

Although a man’s facial skin is thicker than a woman’s-remarkably it is more delicate. You wouldn’t think that this is the case. However, there are some reasons for that:
·         Men historically have taken less care of their skin
·         Men’s skin tends to be exposed more often to damaging environmental elements
·         Daily shaving destroys the hydrolipidic film, leading to loss of natural lubrication and protection
·         Daily shaving also causes scraping and nicks

The skin is the body’s largest organ, with a total surface of about 1.8 square meters and weighing about 11 kilograms. It is a complex system made of multiple layers of tissues that protect our muscles and other organs. It is made up of about 70% water, 25% protein and 2% lipids (fats).

Knowing your skin type is absolutely necessary in order to make a right decision about a proper skin care or treatment for your particular needs. Generally, we can single out five basic skin types: normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive with each having particular characteristics and requiring specific care and/ or treatment.
To determine your type, use a simple test with a clean facial tissue to wipe your face in the morning, when you have just woken up.

Normal Skin
The tissue will not reveal any traces of oil. Your skin should feel vibrant, elastic, and supple. It looks clean and smooth and has a good circulation and healthy complexion.

Dry Skin
The paper will be clean, too, but your face skin will feel flaky, dry, and tight after you have wiped it. Dry Skin can easily develop a sallow tone, wrinkles, and fine pores, and prone to aging and irritation.

Oily Skin
The paper will have spots of facial oil on it, corresponding to the areas of your cheeks, nose, and forehead.  Your face usually looks greasy, thick, coarse, and shiny has enlarged pores, and tend to break into acne.

Combination Skin
Most common among adults and increasingly so after the middle period of life. Characterised by a central band of skin which is oilier and more coarsely textured than the rest of the face.

Sensitive Skin
Often have similar qualities to dry skin with the addition of areas that tend to react against both internal and external influences. Sites of reaction might be caused by  allergies, pollution, chemical irritants, illness, extremes of temperature and other unsuitable environmental conditions. The visible signs of reaction include redness dermatitis, chafing, broken veins, capillaries and mild bruising.
