Summer is fast approaching and I for one am gearing up to hit the beaches and take full advantage of the summer rays! Not without protection though.
I have to admit that sometimes I am slack with protecting and looking after my skin, but I have vowed that I am going to pick up my gain and rather look after my skin now than sit with problems later on in life. No to wrinkles and sun spots or just no to damaged skin for that matter.
Now even though one should always look after your skin and protect your skin from the harmful sun rays, I think precaution should be taken throughout the year, even during the winter months, I mean, the sun does not take a holiday :0)
So here are a few summer skin care tips, the same tips I am going to be following this summer!
Hydration: First and foremost, I think hydration should be your main concern for summer! Especially with the hours spent dehydrating not only in the sun, but also in the bars and clubs. Your skin needs to remain hydrated from the inside out. Its pretty simple.
Timing: The sun's UV rays are the strongest between 10am and 4pm. Granted the time that you would spend in the sun during your holiday time is probably in the afternoon, so just be more aware that at that time you need to be extra careful, use extra protection and keep extra hydrated. With that said, use extra caution near water, snow and sand as they reflect damaging UV rays and increase your chances of sunburn and other damage to the skin and eyes.
Fashion: Again, it is pretty simple, but cover up. Use a cap or hat especially to protect your face from the sun.
Your eyes: Wear sunglasses that provide 100% UV ray protection, look for those that advertise both UVB and UVA protection.
Product: Besides cleansing and moisturising your skin on a daily basis, and not just your face, but your whole body, make sure you use a protective SPF Sunscreen. Use a sunscreen with SPF 15 or more to protect skin that is uncovered. Apply the sunscreen 30 minutes before you head into the sun, perhaps in the morning as well and then reapply every 1 to 2 hours.
So that is it, it is pretty simple. I know that I don't usually follow these tips during summer, but I am becoming more aware of my skin's health, so this season and going forward I will be including this into my every day regime.
If your lost on the type of sunscreen you need to use, here is something to consider. It is a great sunscreen and also has anti-sand technology, meaning that it is completely matt and non sticky and not oily at all, and no shine! You can ask for it at your local Spa or skin treatment centre. Check it out here: SIX Skincare
